Apple-watching has long been a spectator sport for much of the tech industry. More recent years have seen consumer electronics, music industry and now film and television insiders taking note of the developments coming out of Cupertino.
That’s why it’s no surprise that speculation is buzzing about what Apple plans to unveil next week at what it’s termed a “special event.” Little is known for sure about the upcoming event, but that’s never stopped industry observers from sharing their thoughts on the possibilities of a revamped Apple TV (perhaps to be called iTV), enhancements to iTunes, and a wealth of other potential surprises. Hardware Central rounds up the rumors.
Apple set the Internet rumor mill ablaze this week when it issued invitations to selected media outlets for a “special event” at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco on Sept. 1.
As usual, the Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has kept close-lipped about what it plans to announce, and as usual, speculation is running at a fever pitch. But the invitation features an image of an acoustic guitar with an Apple logo, so the general consensus seems to be that the announcement will be music-related — possibly including updated iPods. Apple traditionally announces updates to its iPod line in September.
