Apple’s Steve Jobs raised some eyebrows when he predicted the marginalization of the PC — one of the industries he helped popularize. Speaking during this week’s AllThingsD “D8” conference, the Apple CEO likened PCs to trucks, but devices like tablets to cars — more commonplace, and more useful to more people.
But Microsoft begs to differ. The company’s own chief executive, Steve Ballmer, fired back at Jobs’s conclusions and made some predictions of his own regarding the future of the PC. Datamation has the story.
RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. — Don’t sell the PC short. That was one of the main messages Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer tried to convey during an onstage interview here at the AllThingsD “D8” conference.
It may not have been a topic Ballmer thought he would be discussing, but the issue came to the fore after comments made a day earlier by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the same conference.
