There were plenty of advanced social media solutions on display at this week’s Enterprise 2.0 conference. As well there should be, since social media and the so-called consumerization of IT is such a hot topic these days. Which is not to say enterprises are ready to fully embrace social media given the security and management concerns that remain. As eCRM Guide reports, the State Department was, until recent years, about as reluctant an adopter of new technology as you’re likely to find. But the State Department’s adoption of social media tools, may have some valuable lessons for enterprises and IT departments reluctant to invest in social media services.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — You might not think of the U.S. State Department as a leading edge user of technology, but Richard Boly, director of the department’s Office of eDiplomacy, went a long way toward dispelling that notion here at the Enterprise 2.0 conference Tuesday.
Boly’s talk may have been especially useful to those in IT resisting or limiting adoption of social media for security and management concerns because Boly said his group cleared both those hurdles.
