Excite, Inc. today
announced an upgrade to its Excite Search directory that the company said is designed to deliver targeted content to users along with results.
The Web media guide said Excite Search, which will employ Jango technology acquired from NetBot last year, now incorporates details such as company and product information, up-to-date news articles, and links to other sites culled from Excite’s directory.
A returned search will now include a company’s stock activity and price,
company contact information, corporate Web site links, and a selection of articles about the company that have appeared on the Web.
The initial launch will also focus on sports searches, featuring game
schedules, scores, standings, athletic profiles, league facts, and color photographs from games. The next phase of the search roll out includes places, books, music, movies, and colleges.
“Excite continues to maintain its focus on search because there is a vast
opening in the market to deliver more relevant results, integrating content
that makes sense to millions of frustrated search engine users,” said George
Bell, president and CEO, Excite, Inc. “Excite Search continues to serve as a
very strong driver of traffic on the network, and gives us the ability to
program excellent content successfully to millions of search users.”
