Monday added the DS104, a four-port, auto-sensing hub, to its family of
dual-speed hubs targeting small offices and home offices (SOHOs).
The DS104 is designed to allow SOHO users to share their PCs’ files at the
speed of 100 megabits per second, and connect it to other components that
can run at either Ethernet (10Mbps) or Fast Ethernet (100Mbps) speeds. The
per-port, auto-sensing feature is made so each PC can be networked at either
10Mbps or 100Mbps, independent of the network speed of the PC.
“The DS104 is a great first step that a small office/home office user
can take to install a 100Mbps network,” said Patrick Lo, vice president of
NETGEAR. “Its auto-sensing and dual speeds ports allows the user to enjoy
100Mbps file sharing now and add 10Mbps routers or print servers until the
100Mbps versions of these products become more affordable.”
The new DS104 hub is scheduled to be shipped in early December for a
list price of $149.
