Online Retailers Enjoying Brisk Holiday Season

In some ways, it’s been a mixed bag for online retailers this holiday season. Sixty-five percent of consumers polled recently by comScore said that they had not finished their holiday shopping. Of those, a third said they had held off on some purchases because they were operating under a tight budget.

So on one hand, Internet merchants clearly haven’t racked up all the sales that they might have in more certain economic times, but sales since November are still up 12 percent from the same period last year. The Web metrics firm found that 65 percent of consumers polled haven’t finished their holiday shopping, with many saying they’re operating under a tight budget. ComScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni suggested the poll could indicate that shoppers are holding out for their final paycheck ahead of the holiday before purchasing their last items.
