Sina.com, a portal network for Greater China, launched an online air travel service in Taiwan this week.
SinaTravel enables users on Sina’s Taiwan site to purchase international airline tickets through a partnership with Yulin Travel Service, a leading online airline ticketing site in Taiwan.
Sina says that the service allows customers to purchase tickets at lower prices while gaining the 24-hour accessibility.
“We are excited to be at the forefront of e-commerce in Taiwan and Greater China,” said Jim Sha, CEO for Sina.com. “With 600,000 airline tickets sold each month, there is a tremendous demand for online ticket services in Taiwan.
Sha said that Sina will continue to expand into the e-commerce services area throughout its Greater China network of portals.
Last week, according to company representatives, the first 500 tickets for travel to Hong Kong sold out in less than 30 minutes during a SinaTravel launch promotion. The company say that the online travel service received nearly 2,000 inquiries for those tickets.
In this partnership, Sina splits the profit with the Yulin Travel Service, which supplies the tickets and is handling all customer service duties for SinaTravel.
