VIA NET.WORKS
announced Tuesday that its SURFTRADE
portal now links Portuguese-language markets in Brazil, Portugal and the
United States.

First launched in Brazil in 1997, SURFTRADE provides a range of services
for businesses, with information on finance, law, marketing, business and
technology. surftrade.com.br
has 50,000 registered users, 80 per cent of them corporations seeking
information.

In the United States and Canada, where there are 2.2 million residents
who speak Portuguese, SURFTRADE-USA
provides a service that connects users with business communities in
Brazil and Portugal.

In Portugal, SURFTRADE-Portugal
puts Portuguese users in touch with what is happening in the Brazilian
economy. Shopping and “GUIA DE EMPRESAS” directories promote various
business-to-business and e-commerce opportunities.

Michael J. Simmons, president of VIA NET.WORKS, said the three
sites are intended to provide all Portuguese-language businesses,
regardless of their geographic location, with information that can
be accessed and shared worldwide.

“This exclusive business portal underscores VIA’s commitment to
being a full-service provider to businesses in our local markets,
as well as to bring together markets with common links, such as
language,” said Simmons.

SURFTRADE’s Managing Director Flavia Sampaio said that the network
helps companies better manage their day-to-day business activities,
such as credit programs, tax laws and import and export databases.

“The business portal also serves as a comprehensive resource for
news, sports, weather and financial information,” said Sampaio.

VIA NET.WORKS operates out of Virginia, and runs its own trans-Atlantic
and pan-European STM-1 (155Mbps) backbone network.
