Adding to its growing list of foreign-language sites, Yahoo! Inc. today announced the launch of Yahoo! en espanol, a Spanish version of its popular Web guide.

The directory contains 5,000 Web sites from 20 Spanish-speaking countries,
and is divided into 14 different categories selected by Spanish-speaking
Yahoo! surfers.

Content includes business and entertainment features as well as Spanish
news feeds from the Associated Press, and sports coverage including a
special World Cup site.

Charter sponsors of Yahoo! en espanol are Adobe Systems Pty Ltd.,
Cityview.com, El Sitio Internacional, Ericsson Mobile Phones Region Latin
America, IBM, Mexicana de Aviacion, and Oracle Corp.

“Because the Spanish-speaking population is global and not limited to one
geographic region, Yahoo! has combined general interest and regional Web
content in Spanish into one guide to address the many needs and interests
of this diverse audience,” said Heather Killen, vice president,
international at Yahoo! “Yahoo! allows users to search for the terms most
familiar to
them in each region’s vocabulary.”

The Yahoo! launch comes on the heels of a multi-million dollar agreement recently between leading Latin American portal StarMedia Network and Netscape Corp. to deliver the “Netscape Guide by StarMedia” guide in August.

Yahoo! en espanol is the company’s 14th international site. On May 5,
Yahoo! launched a Chinese version to add to its line of global sites
that includes the UK & Ireland, France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden,
Italy, Canada, Australia & New Zealand, Korea, Japan, and Asia.
