Internet music retailer CDnow launched the first portion of a $22.5 million ad campaign on cable’s MTV, to be followed late
this month by a campaign on VH1.

The launch of the ad campaign is a major component of the three-year $22.5
million partnership announced by CDnow and MTV Networks on May 18. The on-air
campaign consists of 30-second commercials and mentions of CDnow during MTV
and VH1 telecasts.

“On shows like VH1’s Flashback
Week, CDnow will create promotions with discounts on artists featured in the
show,” said Jason Olim, president and CEO of CDnow. “When you watch the MTV Video Music Awards in September, you’ll receive
special offers from CDnow, the exclusive online music retailer for the Video
Music Awards. You see the videos on MTV and VH1 and you buy the music through
CDnow. Buying music has never been easier.”

CDnow features intelligent album recommendations, custom CDs, music samples
and a library of reviews, features from top music writers and exclusive
editorial content from Rolling Stone Network, MTV/VH1 and College Music
Journal (CMJ).
