Internet Ad Spending on the Rise in Japan

Japan’s spending for advertisements on the Internet in 1997 are estimated to
have totaled 6.04 billion yen, 3.8 times larger than the corresponding sum in
1996, Dentsu Inc. said.


Japanese Internet-related advertising expenditures in 1998 are expected to
jump 50% from the previous year to 9 billion yen, with the figure projected
to top 10 billion yen in 1999, said the large, Tokyo-based advertising
agency.


The research covered expenditures carried out for the production and
placement of Internet advertising for the domestic market by information
providers operating in Japan, according to the Kyodo news service.
