Jupitermedia Corporation has acquired PPCforHosts.com, a pay-for-placement marketing firm that serves advertisers in the Web hosting industry. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Darien, Conn.-based Internet publishing conglomerate, which is the parent company of this publication, said it will use the bid-for-placement technology gained through the acquisition to offer paid listings on its own directories, the Search Engine Marketing List and Wi-FiHotSpotList.com.

PPCforHosts.com uses a network of partner sites to distribute a search box where site visitors can search for Web hosting companies. Prospective Web hosting customers select features they require in a hosting solution and hit “search.” The hosting companies that match the user’s criteria are returned in an order determined by how much the Web host marketers were willing to pay. PPCforHosts.com also includes unpaid listings but non-paying companies have no influence on their rank.

Chairman and CEO Alan M. Meckler said the acquisition would provide Jupitermedia with a new revenue opportunity.
