First, there was the Super Bowl advertising hype from dot-com companies,
now in its second year. But we’ll probably think of that din as peaceful
when compared to the upcoming Olympics-related excitement.
The first on the bandwagon was jobs board Monster.com, which this week was named
the official online career management services sponsor of the 2002 Olympic
Winter Games and the 2002 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Teams.
As part of the deal, Monster.com will provide the Salt Lake Organizing
Committee (SLOC) with online job services for employees and volunteers.
It’ll also provide online talent auction services as part of the
sponsorship with the Olympic Properties of the United States (OPUS) – the
joint marketing venture between SLOC and the United States Olympic Committee.
Monster.com became the sixteenth OPUS sponsor and twenty-fourth overall
corporate supporter of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the U.S.
Olympic Team. It’s the first dot-com sponsor, but certainly not the last.
