New AltaVista Canada Site Signs With DoubleClick

DoubleClick will serve as
the international sales agent for the new AltaVista Canada.

The site was launched by TELUS Advertising Services
(TAS), a subsidiary of Edmonton-based TELUS Corp., which manages the
production of Alberta’s White and Yellow Pages, online directories,
electronic information and other advertising services, and the AltaVista Search
Service
, which is owned by Digital
Equipment Corp.

Users of the AltaVista Canada site will have access to more than 10 million
pages of Canadian Web content. In addition, AltaVista Canada will offer
national access to local Canadian information and bilingual search
functionality. The technology behind AltaVista Canada is new, and was
developed jointly by TELUS, Interdynamix Corp. of Edmonton and AltaVista.

Said Don Romaniuk, president of TELUS Advertising Services: “This
announcement recognizes the sophistication of the Canadian marketplace and
acknowledges that Canadians are not only some of the most avid users of new
media and Internet technologies, but remain some of the most prolific
publishers of Internet content.”

“DoubleClick and AltaVista both represent the truly global presence of the
Web,” said Wendy Muller, president of DoubleClick Canada. “Our partnership in
Canada unleashes the power of the Web for branding, selling products and
building relationships with consumers.”

Alberta-based TELUS Corp. is Canada’s third largest telecommunications
company, with more than 9,000 employees and $4.4 billion in assets.
