XOOM.com, United Media Launch Direct Marketing Effort

Direct e-commerce company XOOM.com and newspaper syndicate United Media said that XOOM.com’s
MightyMail division will provide several of United Media’s top comic strip
properties with online marketing and direct e-commerce opportunities.

United Media’s Dilbert comic strip, created by Scott Adams, will be the first
property to benefit from the partnership. Financial arrangements were not
disclosed.

The Dilbert branded free e-mail service will provide United Media with a
one-to-one online branding and viral marketing strategy, as fans forward
their Dilbert e-mails to friends and family.

Dilbert e-mail will be made available at Dilbert’s Web site as
well as at XOOM.com, which currently has more than 10 million registered
members.

XOOM.com members will have the opportunity to purchase Dilbert
products and find out about new Dilbert content through direct e-mail offers.

“Dilbert fans can choose from several letterhead designs and send rich, HTML
e-mail messages to their friends, ” said Suzanne Yadav, general manager of
online services at United Media.

“We look forward to launching MightyMail
with our other properties as we continue our partnership with XOOM.com.”

XOOM.com offers consumers free services over the Web, including homepage
building, chat rooms, message boards, HTML e-mail, online greeting cards, a
Web page counter, clip art and downloadable software. It then targets its members with
product and service offers.
