Fujitsu PC Corporation Monday unveiled its latest pen tablet PC, the Stylistic LT P-600. The new unit is decribed as a fully functioning PC without a keyboard. A stylus or pen is used for all input, although there is an optional wireless keyboard and mini-dock available.
The device is targeted for use in vertical markets such as field and sales force automation, government agencies, merchandising, healthcare, and other mobile workforce users with intensive computing requirements.
The LT P-600 features an Intel PIII 600/300 Mhz processor, 15 GB shock-mounted hard drive, and up to 256 MB of RAM. It has also integrated the ATI RAGE Mobility-M with 4 MB video memory. The unit is 9.6″ x 7.1″ x 1.1″ and weight 2.65 lbs. It has an 8.4″ display available either as a brightness-enhanced indoor Transmissive SVGA color LCD, or a viewable-everywhere Transflective SVGA color LCD. The screens feature a liquid-filled digitizer to to minimize light refraction and reduce screen glare. The passive dgitizer incorporates ‘palm rejection’ technology to better distinguish between the user’s palm and pen, ensuring that data is entered accurately. It supports simultaneous internal and external video.
The LT P-600 has a built-in touchpad area for entering numeric data and other user controls. Power is provided by a 3400 mAh Lithium-ion battery with 4.5 to 6.5 hours or life depending on settings and model.
On the software side, the new unit is available with either Win 98 SE or Microsoft’s Pen Services 2.0 or Win 2000 Professional. CIC ‘s Pen X software is included. The LT P-600 has a recovery application to guard against system failure and restore the unit to its original installed condition. This is accomplished by writing to a secure area directly on the hard drive for data backup.
Other features include a built-in Smart Card reader, in anticipation of applications like secured online transactions, personalized authentication services, access to personal data and e-cash storage options. The device comes standard with a built-in 56K V.90 modem and an integrated 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet port. There is an optional wireless module as well, which is designed to allow resellers to put in 802.11b WLAN PC cards. According to Fujitsu, the module attaches to the back of the unit andkeeps the system’s Type II PC Card slot available for other uses.
Fujitsu PCs are sold through a worldwide network of Value Added Resellers (VARs) and system integrators. The company stated that the unit has a starting price of $3,599 and comes with a standard three-year International Limited Warranty. The warranty includes 24/7 tech support.
