SLIDESHOW: 10 Announcements from Amazon re:Invent 2013

Amazon executives detailed a series of innovations for Amazon Web Services (AWS), including enhancements to existing services as well as new cloud services. Typically, Amazon and its partners have leveraged the cloud as a server consolidation and scalability play, but at re:Invent, the focus expanded to the desktop.

The new Amazon WorkSpaces service brings Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to AWS to enable customers to run their desktops in the cloud. Although the cloud has been used for app delivery before, Amazon is now providing a focused product with the new AppStream service that aims to optimize the delivery of resource-intensive apps from the cloud.
