The Cow Company Takes 802.11b to Market

Gateway, Inc. today announced its latest wireless home networking initiative, which is based on a combination of 802.11b products and its notebook computers. A television ad campaign promoting the Gateway Wireless Home Network Solution is scheduled to debut Wednesday.

The Gateway Wireless Home Network Solution is a package which includes the Intel AnyPoint Wireless II base station, desktop and notebook PC connections, convenient on-site installation, and three years of limited warranty coverage and technical support.

Gateway is selling this for $499, or for $299 for customers who purchase a Gateway notebook with an Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M. The $299 deal is also available to customers who purchase a broadband subscription from Gateway. Customers who already own notebooks with integrated 802.11b capability can pay $249 for the home networking package.

The TV commercial, which features CEO Ted Waitt and a talking Holstein, is designed to highlight Gateway’s ability to provide complete hardware, support, and installation services to all consumers attempting to implement home networks.
