MS Patch Day To Fix Windows, Office, Visual Studio

Next Tuesday, January 9 is the monthly Patch Tuesday from Microsoft, with a number of fixes for both Windows and Microsoft applications. As is tradition, Microsoft does not give details on the vulnerabilities in advance of the fixes.

The Office fixes could be meant to address vulnerabilities found in Word in early December but were not fixed as part of the December monthly patch cycle.

Three of the Security Bulletins will be specifically for Microsoft Windows, with a maximum severity of Critical, and some will require a restart of the computer.

One Bulletin affects Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Visual Studio, which means the security issue spans both products, with a rating of Important. There is also one Bulletin affecting Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, also rated Important.

There will also be three Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Office, with at least one having the highest rating of Critical. In addition, Microsoft will release 2 non-security high-priority updates on Microsoft Update (MU) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Also, there will be the monthly update to the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Microsoft will host its usual day-after Webcast next Wednesday, January 10, on its Technet site to discuss the fixes and updates.
