Some Report Glitches in Windows 7 Patch Install

Though the majority of users installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) are having no problems, a small group is reporting that they’re receiving fatal errors and other hiccups during the update.

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) issued the update late last month — after beta testing SP1 since July, the final code was released Feb. 22 to PC OEMs.

According to posts on Microsoft’s Windows 7 forums, some SP1 users are experiencing installation failures that generate a fatal error, according to posts on Microsoft’s Windows 7 forums.

To address the situation, Microsoft published a pair of knowledge base articles presenting ways to overcome some of the problems.

In late January, Microsoft revealed it had already sold more than 300 million units of the new software in just over a year on the market.
