Woman-oriented online and on-air network Oxygen Media launched Shop O2, an
e-commerce Web site that offers product reviews written by other Oxygen
shoppers as well as expert articles from around the Web.
Users who share their advice with other women by writing product reviews can
be rewarded for it. User reviews are graded by other members, and each time a
review receives an A grade, the reviewer will be rewarded a base royalty of a
nickel, the company said. Users can refer to their account profile to track
their reviews’
average grade, the number of grades received and royalties accrued.
The site’s decision guide and comparison shopping agent are powered by the
ASP-based version of Frictionless Commerce’s PurchaseSource.
“We did extensive research, including speaking with women from all over the
country, to determine what it is that women really want from the Web when
they shop,” said Daphne Kwon, senior vice president for Oxygen Media.
“Overwhelmingly, women told us that they want to simplify the process of
researching products before they buy They want to know what the experts, as
well as what other women just like them, have to say about what they’re
shopping for.”
Kwon said Shop O2 was developed as
a result of that feedback, and was created to be an easy-to-use, time saving
research tool “for women who strive to be well-informed shoppers.”
After doing their research at the site, users can shop the Web at large with
“an unbiased decision guide/comparison shopping agent that searches hundreds
of online merchants,” the company said.
Shop O2 is initially covering products in the Baby Gear, Electronics, Apparel
& Accessories, Beauty, Home & Garden, Health & Wellness, Sports & Fitness
and Toys & Games categories.
Shop O2’s content is integrated throughout Oxygen’s other sites — including
Thrive and Moms Online.
Oxygen Media, which also operates a 24-hour cable network, was founded in
1998 by Geraldine Laybourne, Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner, Caryn Mandabach and
Oprah Winfrey.
