AOL Launches Clearance Sale

Dec 23, 1999

In the tradition of major shopping centers, America Online Thursday launched a clearance shopping
center
on Shop@AOL.

Created to lure post-holiday online bargain hunters, the clearance sale
catalog features brand-name products from more than 50 merchant partners at
discounts of up to 70 percent off their regular retail prices.

In addition to the catalog, the majority of Shop@AOL’s 275 merchant
partners will be offering special discounts after Christmas. The offers
will be promoted throughout various areas of the AOL and CompuServe online
services and the Digital City.com,/a>,
Netscape.com and Spinner.com Web sites in real time.

More than 40 percent of AOL (AOL)
members shopped the site in November 1999, according to Media Metrix
research. On Wednesday, AOL acquired MapQuest.com for $1.1 billion to offer
clients directions for areas of entertainment, dining and shopping online.
