Vignette Corp. and Ariba Inc., both caterers to the B2B space, Thursday
allied to
offer their customers a joint B2B platform for marketplaces.

Marrying Vignette’s applications with Ariba’s platform infrastructure, the
deal is aimed at helping suppliers and buyers improve relations with each
other. Financial terms of the deal were not made public.

The Ariba-Vignette marriage will help suppliers differentiate their
offerings by providing rich content and product data and by promoting their
products with advanced product substitution and product bundling
capabilities.

In turn, buyers may increase efficiencies in a number of commerce scenarios
by providing highly personalized
interaction with product catalogs.

Simply, Vignette and Ariba hope to create a great user experience to keep
fickle customers coming back.

Bill Murphy, senior vice president and chief technology officer of
MetalSpectrum, was privy to the venture before its formal introduction
Thursday.

“Vignette’s solution enables MetalSpectrum to provide industry content and
user personalization for
our customers that will keep them coming back to our site,” Murphy said.
“Integrated with the commerce foundation provided by Ariba, we have all of
the necessary components in place.”
