CDnow and BowieNet Form Partnership

Dec 16, 1998

Internet music store CDnow and UltraStar, developer of the new (David) BowieNet ISP, formed a partnership that
will provide UltraStar members with direct access to CDnow’s catalog of more
than 300,000 items.

Financial arrangements were not disclosed.

UltraStar is a management and technology partnership that brings major entertainment,
sports and fashion clients to consumers through a community-based forum
delivered over the Web.

CDnow’s partnership with UltraStar gives David Bowie fans access to a
comprehensive catalog of Bowie products, both on and off the Web.

“We plan to make online music distribution a prominent feature on all future UltraStar ISPs,” said Ron Roy, spokesman for UltraStar.

“The relationship between CDnow and UltraStar is a great example of our
commitment to both the artist and the music fan,” said Bob Saltzman, CDnow’s
vice president of strategic business development. “CDnow is very excited to be
working with such a respected and top-notch artist as David Bowie, and we look
forward to
working with many more of UltraStar’s artist-influenced ISPs in the future.”

The joint venture’s first online contest/promotion is the David Bowie Cyber
Song Contest, in which contestants will help David Bowie complete a new song.
