Cendant Corp., in a move that leverages its
real estate brand names such as Century 21, launched a nationwide relocation,
real estate, and home-related services portal called Move.com.
The new site “offers customers a broad spectrum of online and off-line
solutions needed
before, during and after a move,” the company said, including mortgage, home
and rental listings, assistance with utility and other service connections,
and other moving and home-related content.
At the same time, Move.com signed a deal with CMGI Inc.’s AltaVista to create a co-branded real
estate channel that will debut in several months on the search site.
Under the terms of the three-year agreement, AltaVista will receive payments
valued at up to $40 million. Move.com will be the exclusive content provider
to the new real estate channel carried on the AltaVista Live! personalized
portal service.
AltaVista will promote the co-branded channel as well as
move.com throughout its network of
services comprising AltaVista Search, AltaVista Shopping.com and AltaVista
Live!
Move.com utilizes the content and expertise of the residential real estate
brands and companies owned by Cendant including: the Century 21, Coldwell
Banker and ERA franchise systems; Cendant Mortgage; Cendant Mobility; Welcome
Wagon/GETKO; and National Home Connections.
In addition, Move.com integrates content and commerce from a variety of
business
partners including a new alliance with hardware.com and other partners such
as AllState Insurance, furniture.com, CarsDirect.com, Ryder Truck Rental,
ImproveNet and Carefinder.com.
“Cendant’s existing breadth of services and depth of experience give
Move.com a clear understanding of movers’ needs and offer us the core
strengths to intelligently
guide customers through the entire process,” said Sarah Nolan, chief executive officer of
move.com.
