Commerce One Inc., a provider of electronic procurement solutions, and The SABRE Group, formed a strategic alliance
to create an enterprise solution that will enable organizations to further
streamline the purchasing process.
By integrating Commerce One’s Commerce Chain Solution with SABRE Business Travel Solutions companies
will be able to automate and streamline the purchases of items such as
indirect goods, company services and business travel, the two firms said.
Additionally, the integrated solution will enable organizations to achieve a
single point of control over corporate spending to reduce costs, eliminate
inefficiencies and increase return on investment.
Commerce One BuySite is a Web-based procurement application that enables
business-to-business buying over the Internet. SABRE Business Travel
Solutions’ software suite provides travel booking and travel policy
management, expense reporting and decision-making tools.
“Our research of early adopters of Internet procurement automation indicates
that there is a significant need and opportunity to streamline and improve
control over corporate purchases beyond traditional MRO supplies,” said Tim
Minahan, senior analyst of e-commerce at Aberdeen Group.
“Travel and entertainment is an ideal candidate for Internet-based automation
because such expenses are common to the income statements of most
organizations, and T&E purchasing is currently a highly decentralized and
paper-intensive activity.”
Commerce One customers will be able to easily access SABRE Business Travel
Solutions through Commerce One BuySite with a single user logon. By bringing
these two products together, the user is able to handle all purchases through
one application.
“The SABRE Group’s commitment to T&E automation made this a natural alliance
for Commerce One, as it will create an opportunity for corporations to further
reduce procurement costs,” said Mark Hoffman, president and CEO of Commerce
One.
“The SABRE Group has proven over the last three years that by automating the
purchase of travel, you can directly impact a company’s bottom line, and we
believe our alliance with Commerce One will help reduce an organization’s
procurement costs even further,” said Sam Gilliland, senior vice president of
SABRE Travel Information Network,
a division of The SABRE Group, and general manager of SABRE Business
Travel Solutions.
Commerce One and The SABRE Group will work together on sales and marketing.
The integrated product is scheduled to be available later this quarter. Pricing was not
disclosed.
