Online retail operation Walmart.com was down for nearly 9 hours today after
it choked on a database glitch, but the site was back up and running by about
12:50 p.m. EDT.

Walmart.com spokeswoman Cynthia Lin told InternetNews.com it was “a
nonrecurring problem” and as such is not expected to happen again. She said
she did not have details as to what precisely caused the site to crash.

The online sales operation is a joint venture of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
and venture capital firm Accel Partners. It recently laid
off 24 of 250 employees
, but Lin said at the time the company expects to
hire more than 50 others for engineering and technology jobs.

The company also moved its headquarters from two offices in Menlo Park,
Calif. to one office in Brisbane, Calif.
