Excite Inc. unveiled
Excite Express Order, which lets shoppers enter billing information once and
use it repeatedly to buy merchandise quickly and easily from retailers on
Excite.
Excite Express Order functions as a virtual credit card wallet for consumers,
Excite said.
The service is available immediately in Excite’s Holiday Shoppe. The initiative
will be supported by Excite’s preferred payment sponsor, MasterCard, with national broadcast and
print advertising aimed at educating consumers about online shopping.
For the launch, Excite teamed up with an advance group of interested retailers
to build an easy-to-use shopping environment for consumers. In the coming
months, Excite said it expects to add more merchant partners, building out
other shopping categories.
Consumers register with Excite Express Order when they purchase their first
product by filling out a one-page registration form with their preferred
billing, shipping and credit card information, and choose a custom user name
and password. With one click, users can then quickly and securely send
complete billing and shipping information directly to participating retailers
each time they’re ready to purchase a product.
“Past online shopping experiences forced consumers to jump around the Web,
visit dozens of sites to find only a few items on their shopping lists and
continuously re-enter their billing and credit card information each time they
wanted to buy an item,” said Andy Halliday, vice president of commerce at
Excite. “Excite is simplifying the process. . . in order to give consumers
a more
streamlined shopping experience.”
Supporting Excite’s electronic commerce efforts, MasterCard
will launch an updated version of its Internet shopping television
advertisement which debuted during NBC’s final episode of “Seinfeld.” The
commercial invites consumers to use their MasterCard cards for shopping on the
Internet and to buy gifts at the Holiday Shoppe on Excite.
Shoppers who register their MasterCard on Excite Express Order now through
Dec. 31 will receive a co-branded, pre-paid phone card after completing their
initial purchase with any Express Order merchant.
