FamilyMeds.com signed a deal to
co-branded English- and Spanish-language online pharmacies for Ames
Department Stores Inc. as part of FamilyMeds.com’s ongoing B2B initiative.

Ames is a large regional discount retailer with 460 stores in 19 states and
the District of
Columbia and annual sales of $4 billion.

The new Web site, Amesmeds.com, will be operational as of
May 26, 2000, the companies said, and will offer Ames customers the ability
to fill prescriptions, shop for health and beauty care items, receive health
and nutritional information, and consult with pharmacists online.

Financial arrangements between the companies were not disclosed.

In addition, the site will provide Ames customers with access to
FamilyMeds.com’s existing business alliances with The Senior Network,
Complexions Rx, FamilyMeds Contact Lenses and eventually, a link to Health
Care America for healthcare
services and medical equipment.

“The FamilyMeds.com/Ames partnership will enable Ames to expand its product
offerings without adding inventory or shelf space and gives Ames’ customers
online access to health care products and content through a brand they have
known and trusted for years,” said Ed A. Mercadante, president and chief executive officer of
FamilyMeds.com.

Launched in August 1999 by Arrow Pharmacy and Nutrition Centers,
FamilyMeds.com offers information organized by health condition, expert
online advice and the ability to fulfill more than 50,000 prescription
medications, over-the-counter remedies, and
vitamins and nutritional supplements.

Amesmeds.com will be supported by joint marketing by Ames and FamilyMeds.com,
including marketing efforts aimed at Ames’ 3 million 55 Gold customers.
