Kansas officials have filed five lawsuits against a variety of companies and individuals for illegally selling drugs over the Internet.
The state is suing seven companies, six doctors and four individuals. Kansas officials say Home Prescription Services Inc., Confirmed LLC, Focus Medical Group Inc., Senior Care Pharmacy and Viapro Inc. illegally sold prescription drugs, some of which are controlled substances over the Internet. Four individuals are being targeted for operating businesses using fictitious names and three out-of-state pharmacies were cited for selling drugs in Kansas without registering with state regulators.
Kansas’ Board of Healing Arts has filed a lawsuit in one case for illegally practicing medicine and the state’s pharmacy board has filed four lawsuits for the unauthorized practice of pharmacy.
Kansas Attorney General Carla Stovall said the drugs illegally sold include Viagra and the diet drugs Meridia and Phentermine. Investigators and a minor acting under their direction were able to purchase prescription drugs from the sites. In the minor’s case, the companies did not require parental consent.
