EMC Corp. a provider of
intelligent enterprise storage solutions, reported that legal publisher
Matthew
Bender & Company Inc. is using EMC’s Web Site Management Service for an
e-commerce application that uses the Web to receive orders and speed
delivery of products.
New York City-based Matthew Bender, a Times Mirror Company, publishes nearly
500 titles for law firms, universities, and others involved in the legal
profession. Because of the timely nature of the content, time-to-market is
critical.
Bender said its specialized site, www.bender.com, has been experiencing an ever
increasing number of Web-based orders.
Through EMC’s service, the Matthew Bender Web site is hosted and managed at
EMC’s Internet Services Data Center in Hopkinton, MA.
Using EMC’s service, Matthew Bender can receive, confirm, and securely invoice
transactions over the Internet while rapidly filling and shipping orders. In
addition, the Matthew Bender Web site provides special sections where visitors
can read and electronically discuss topical legal issues and rulings.
Financial details of the arrangement were not disclosed.
Matthew Bender said it selected EMC’s Web Site Management Service, in part
because EMC’s Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems are the information
foundation for the service. Matthew Bender uses several Symmetrix systems in
its facilities in Albany, NY, and New York City, and has realized 50% to
75% performance improvements on key production applications.
EMC’s monthly fee-based Web Site Management Service is delivered through a
data center that uses high-speed T3 and other telecommunications lines and
multiple Internet access service providers to ensure continuous site access.
The electronic firewall-protected center is equipped with redundant servers
and storage as well as electric generating capabilities in the event of a
power failure.
