MP3.com Inc. Tuesday unveiled Music Service
Provider Platform 1.0, a set of products and technologies that allow for the
delivery of music and music-related services, at the MP3 Summit 2000 in San
Diego.
The company said the platform would enable its music provider partners to
generate increased revenues by offering customers a suite of personalized
music content and services. MP3.com said partner
companies can use MSP Platform 1.0 to design, develop and manufacture
next-generation PC and PC-free products and services that will deliver
digital music to consumers anytime, anywhere.
The platform is structured to provide partners with five major components.
“MSP Content” consists of the music and information available at MP3.com’s
Web site. “MSP Co-Brand” allows partners to leverage My.MP3.com music
manager in a co-branded environment. The “Instant Listening” program allows
online and offline retail partners to provide customers with instant digital
access to purchased music. “Beam-It” enables partners to provide online
access to CDs. Finally, the “MSP API” flexible programming interface allows
for delivery of personalized music and services to devices, applications and
Web sites.
MP3.com said more than 20 MSP partners have joined with it.
“The MSP Platform 1.0 powers our partners’ music solutions by providing
content and services while creating new revenue opportunities,” said Michael
Robertson, chairman and chief executive officer of MP3.com.
He added that the platform lays the groundwork for delivery of music as a
service.
