SonyStyle.com will relaunch its Musiclub gateway, the electronics giant’s
consumer gateway to digital music, news and products.
Launching at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Saturday, Musiclub
will feature more music downloads, up-to-date music news, reviews and artist
coverage, as well as the most current information on Sony’s portable digital
music products and software.
The revamped version of Musiclub,
part of Sony Electronics e-Solutions Company LLC, is designed to amass all
the tools for researching and downloading digital music over the Internet in
one site.
To be sure, the redesign comes amid troubled times for Internet music sites. Two
digital-music outfits released bad news Wednesday: music directory
Listen.com canned 25 percent of its staff while CD seller Musicmaker
underwent liquidation altogether.
But Sony contends the Musiclub also comes with strong backing from streaming
specialist Liquid Audio Inc. and the Bertelsmann-owned CDNow Inc., who will
lengthen their partnerships with Sony along the way.
Musiclub members have access to more than 115,000 free and for-purchase
music downloads from Sony Music, CDNOW and the Liquid Audio catalog, which
can be personalized based on music preferences offered during the free
registration process.
“As a complete online destination for the entertainment lifestyle, we are
excited to offer a secure, comprehensive location for our customers to
download popular music over the Internet while keeping with our goals of
providing a one-stop-shopping environment where technology and entertainment
converge,” said Robert Ashcroft president and chief executive officer of
Sony Electronics e-Solutions Co. LLC.
