Yahoo Retools Search With Entertainment Focus

Yahoo took a lot of heat when it teamed up with Microsoft in the search market. That alliance, a bid to take on market leader Google, has seen Microsoft take over the technical infrastructure that powers Yahoo’s search engine. As a result Yahoo took a lot of flak from critics who accused the Web pioneer of throwing in the towel in the search game.

But Yahoo executives have pointedly disputed that notion, claiming that the company will continue to innovate around the search experience. And Thursday, Yahoo took another step in that direction, rolling out a set of new features to the search engine designed to more neatly order content surrounding popular news and entertainment items. Web pioneer Yahoo on Thursday rolled out an update of its search engine, offering new features that aim to bring users closer to popular news and entertainment content.

Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) is calling the service “immersive search,” integrating sorted displays of video, images, news stories and Twitter content into its results.
