Puppet Going Commercial With Enterprise Edition

Puppet is getting ready to compete with the big boys.

Puppet Labs, the lead commercial sponsor of the open source project, has unveiled an enterprise version of the system management offering, in the process taking aim at leading vendors in the space like HP, IBM and BMC.

Even though Puppet Enterprise has some of the trapping of the open core model — layering on commercial enhancements over top of the basic open source offering — the company insists that it will never cannibalize the functionality of the flagship Puppet product as a standalone.

“It’s not ‘open core,’ because Puppet is a fantastic product even without those components,” said Puppet Labs CEO Luke Kanies.

Enterprise Networking Planet reports on Puppet Labs’ venture into enterprise-class systems management.
