CAIS Internet Launches DSL Services

, Monday began a national rollout of high speed
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Internet service for residents and businesses
in the metro-Washington, D.C. area.


The company said after the launch in Washington, D.C., Virginia and
Maryland, it plans to unveil the high-speed DSL service, dubbed HyperDSL,
in Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, the New York-New
Jersey metropolitan area and San Francisco in the first quarter of 1999.


DSL uses on existing telephone lines to provide a high-speed, dedicated
Internet connection.


Single users can obtain HyperLink service in three levels, at speeds from
640 kilobits per second to 7.1 megabits per second, with pricing starting
at $57.95 per month.


In addition, the company will offer a separate service
for Local Area Network customers, called HyperLAN ADSL. This option
provides access for up to 10 LAN users and is available for $179.95. CAIS
said it also plans to add additional levels of the HyperDSL services within
the next month, at speeds ranging from 144 Kbps up to 1.1 Mbps in each
direction.


“Today’s announcement is a critical step in our national expansion as the
specialist in the provision of high-speed Internet access
in both shared- tenant and single residence and office environments,” said
Ulysses G. Auger II, chairman and president of
CGX Communications and CAIS Internet.
