Cendant Corporation and Netopia, Inc. joined forces and today announced the launch of over 4,000 hotel Web sites for Cendant’s various hotel chains in what appears to be the single largest Web site hosting deal in the travel industry.
Hotel chains included in the launch are Howard Johnson, Days Inn, Ramada and Travelodge hotel chains. The sites were created using the Netopia e-Business Platform.
Each chain’s Web site features photos of the hotel, provides information about amenities and rates and offers a link to the central reservation system to allow for online reservations.
Global provider of real estate, travel and direct marketing related consumer and business services Cendant Corporation (CD) feels the launch marks its next phase-an overall strategic shift to a more Internet-focused way of doing business.
John Paul Nichols, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Cendant, understands that as consumers become more accustomed to doing business online, they become more detailed as to what they want and when they want to do it.
“The new sites will enable consumers to book hotel rooms in exactly that way,” he said.
In addition to empowering the consumer who wants more choices, the launch will also serve as an answer to the franchiser looking for more control in creating innovative local online marketing of the hotel and to offer enhanced local services.
“We are empowering franchisees to creative destination-based online promotions that simply aren’t feasible at the national level,” Nichols said. “They give the hotels more control over local revenue generating programs and partnerships while still maintaining the integrity of the corporate brand identity.”
“We designed and built the Web sites, host the sites on our server, provide partner and merchant support and are now working closely with Cendant to promote this new service and create online marketing programs,” he said.
Netopia feels that Cendant’s success with the hotel Web sites validates the strength of Netopia’s flexible Web site building platform.
