Comtech Telecommunications ,a Melville, N.Y., wireless networking equipment equipment maker, has received an order from a customer in Asia worth $1.3 million.

The contract was awarded to Comtech’s Tempe, Ariz., subsidiary, Comtech EF Data, and includes the company’s CDM-600 satellite modem, as well as its SDM-2020 and SDM-9000 modems.

For competitive reasons, the name of the buyer was not disclosed. However, Comtech noted that this is the third large order from the customer in the last two years.

Through its operating units, Comtech sells in three interrelated market segments: telecommunications transmission, radio frequency microwave amplifiers, and mobile data communications services.

In all, its customers are using more than 275 products in more than 100 countries.

In a recent discussion about the company’s outlook, Comtech Telecommuncations president and CEO Fred Kornberg said the company’s research and development investments are starting to pay off.

Despite the poor telecommunications market, orders from the U.S. military and other customers are helping fill the gap.
