The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is hosting a Rural Wireless Internet Service Provider (ISP) Showcase and Workshop Sept. 18 at the FCC’s headquarters in Washington. The event is part of ongoing Commission efforts intended to facilitate the deployment of broadband services to rural America.

The event will feature virtual tours of several wireless ISPs, discussions of technology, implementation issues, best practices, and lessons learned. In addition, it will provide an opportunity for the FCC to learn what, if any, regulatory barriers stand in the way of rural wireless ISP deployment.

Presenters will be service providers who are offering high-speed Internet service to their rural customers. According to the FCC, the Showcase event emphasize real world questions and practical solutions with the goal of encouraging and enabling new, innovative, and economic approaches to providing rural broadband.

The all-day event begins at 9:30 a.m. It is open to the public and there is no registration fee. Seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Since a large crowd is anticipated, attendees are urged to RSVP to WISPShowcase@fcc.gov. Attendees will need to supply their name, who they represent, e-mail address and which workshops they plan to attend.
