A new venture backed by key members of the founding team of Qwest Communications unveiled its plans for a pan-European intelligent IP services network in London yesterday.
The innovative design of the high-speed IP network will put Europe ahead of the US in enabling the growth of the digital economy, the company claimed.
“Our network has been designed solely for the needs of businesses as they develop and expand in Europe,” said Reynie Ortiz, AduroNet’s chairman and CEO.
“Our aim is to eliminate the hassle of creating pan-European e- and m-business by simplifying what was once difficult. We have broken the mould with the design of AduroNet,” he added.
London-based AduroNet is creating a network in which none of its local points of presence throughout Europe will be more than a single router hop away from its core data centres in London and Frankfurt. The network will also link directly to every European Internet exchange and across the Atlantic to the Internet exchange in New York.
It will offer application and content delivery across Europe to guaranteed service level agreements; secure, high-speed Internet transit; and pan-European virtual private network (VPN) services.
The company believes it is the first network services provider to optimize its infrastructure for the delivery of both content and applications through an innovative combination of two separate network architectures. Leading-edge virtual router technology from Redwood City-based startup Cosine Communications and wire-speed backbone routers from Juniper Networks play a key role in the design.
The network and IP-based business services will be supplied on a wholesale basis via partners such as ISPs and ASPs, as well as direct to large enterprises and dot-com businesses. AduroNet is partnering with local ISPs to deliver services at the edge of the network, and offers hosting both to ASPs and dotcoms in its data centers.
Its first partners for application delivery include European ASP HOSTeu and online broker E*Trade.
Former Qwest executives on the AduroNet management team include Qwest co-founder Dan O’Callaghan, who becomes executive VP of network transport, George Keays, who becomes SVP business development, and AduroNet co-founders Reynie Ortiz, Andrew Carver and Brian Levy (formerly director of network operations at Qwest subsidiary EUnet).
