Helping organizations streamline life-cycle management and data recovery and building on its alliance with German software firm SAP AG , IBM Corp.
, today introduced new Tivoli products for the SAP Enterprise Business Solution, mySAP.com.
The release of the new products is timely as industry analyst firm IDC recently reported that the enterprise system management software market grew to $13.8 billion in 2000 and is expected to increase to $24.9 billion in 2005.
And of the enterprise system management software sector’s ten functional markets, performance management software and backup and archive software were found to be the largest, with each grabbing about 19 percent market share.
The Tivoli Management Solution has been designed for the management of mySAP.com’s performance and availability, security, storage and change management. Through tight integration IBM says it helps smooth operations of mySAP.com e-business solutions.
The Tivoli Manager for R/3 release 2.2 offers availability and performance monitoring and is integrated with the SAP Monitoring Architecture, event management, deployment of SAP R/3 and strategic management of SAP R/3 as a distributed enterprise application.
Through integrating SAP R/3 management features with the overall IT management strategy of the organization, IBM says the software can enable customers to manage their entire IT environment.
Tivoli Data Protection for IBM Enterprise Storage Server for R/3, is designed for the protection of SAP R/3 applications. Through utilizing IBM’s Enterprise Storage Server FlashCopy function, it generates a copy of the production data, which IBM says is then used for backup.
Tivoli Manager for MQSeries v2.4 offers Tivoli’s life-cycle management functions through MQSeries middleware across both host and distributed environments from a single desktop.
Tivoli Data Protection for Informix provides centralized, on-line, incremental backup capabilities for restoring and managing Informix server databases and logical logs. IBM says its features include LAN-free support on IBM AIX and Sun Solaris platforms.
Triaton GmbH, one of Europe’s largest providers of SAP R/3, has deployed several Tivoli solutions including; Tivoli Data Protection for R/3, Tivoli Data Protection for ESS for R/3, Tivoli Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server and Tivoli Manager for Oracle.
Including these products as part of a full-scale systems management initiative, Triaton says it can manage the availability and protection of their clients’ data as well as deliver storage management as a storage service provider.
“Tivoli products are for systems management and without systems management we could not survive,” says Ralf Bornat, service unit head, Storage Management at Triaton. He adds that Tivoli provides a way for the firm to keep control of its Service Level Agreements (SLAs) where it is active on three continents.
Robert LeBlanc, general manager, Tivoli Software, IBM Software Group says the new solutions offer enhanced management of database and application content and that future Tivoli products will continue to help customers maintain high service levels and lower costs:
“This will significantly improve our customers’ ability to quickly get more value from their Tivoli solutions,” he says.
