Akamai Technologies Inc. and IBM Friday revealed that IBM will offer Akamai’s streaming media services to IBM’s Web hosting customers worldwide.

Earlier this year, IBM Global Services agreed to remarket Akamai’s FreeFlow service for high-speed Web content delivery. With today’s announcement, IBM Web hosting customers will now also have access to the service, designed to enhance the quality and reliability of live and on-demand streaming media.

“As a leader in Web hosting and with its global reach, IBM is uniquely equipped to bring Akamai’s streaming services to its interactive media customers,” said Earl Galleher, executive vice president for Akamai. “We’re thrilled to work closely with IBM and to further integrate our offerings to create best-in-class Internet services for e-businesses worldwide.”

“Optimal Web performance — including high-quality streaming delivery — is crucial for any Web hosting customer,” said Warren Hart, director of global offerings for Web hosting for IBM Global Services. “Using Akamai’s streaming media services, IBM’s customers will be able to bring their Web sites to life with broadcast-quality streaming media content.”
