Inktomi, Documentum Play Fetch

Two Silicon Valley-based companies working in the content management sector Thursday signed a pact to offer a complete managing and retrieving content package for medium to large corporations.

The solution is a combination of Pleasanton, Calif.-based Documentum‘s 4i eBusiness Platform and Inktomi‘s Enterprise Search tools.

The idea is to provide a single interface for finding, sharing and using all forms of content with customers, partners and employees worldwide, regardless of where the information is located within the network.

“Our Search Everywhere strategy combined with Documentum’s leading content management expertise allows us to further deliver on providing single search box access to content throughout the enterprise,” says Inktomi vice president of channels and business development Kevin Brown. “By extending the Documentum-Inktomi solution to new and existing customers we will provide global enterprises with advanced capabilities to more efficiently manage and retrieve information no matter where it resides.”

The combined solution also takes advantage of the major enhancements that Documentum announced to its 4i eBusiness Platform last month. The latest release includes expanded global content management capabilities, new out-of-the-box integrations with leading enterprise applications and improved business process automation. The platform is based on an open architecture is XML and J2EE enabled for collaboration and the building of rich content applications.

Inktomi is expected to pull its weight with the crucial contacts in the medium to large corporate customer contacts. The Foster City, Calif.-based Internet search and content delivery developer has developed network infrastructure software for companies like Yahoo! , Microsoft
and AOL .
