Intranets.com, a privately held Woburn company that offers free intranet portals to businesses, ended months of
anticipation by opening its doors in Europe Wednesday after partnering with GTS Systems and Virginbiz.net.

Intranets.com, which provides free intranets for more than 325,000 organizations, most in the United States and Japan, will let Virginbiz.net and GTS Systems
customize intranets for their customers. Financial details were not disclosed.

Partnering with GTS Systems, a provider of e-business and broadband services across Europe, enables Intranets.com to provide intranets for the firm’s 100,000
business customers.

The companies’ joint offering, GTS Virtual Office, is already available in the United Kingdom and will be rolled out across the rest of Europe over the next two
quarters, with services planned in German, French and Dutch.

Intranets.com CEO Steve Crummey said the global push was important because six in 10 Web users live outside of the United States.

“Our business strategy is to bring a localized version of Intranets.com to the major economic centers of the world,” Crummey said.

On the Virginbiz.net side of the deal, Intranet.com will offer small business customers co-branded intranets with localized commerce and content, which will favor
Virginbiz.net’s 10 percent of the U.K.’s small business market. The company is a subsidiary of the Virgin conglomerate led by Richard Branson.

Intranets.com launched in Japan last February. In July it sold a 30 percent stake in its
Japanese unit
to Hitachi Ltd., which as part of the deal delivers free intranets to its small business customers in Japan.

Intranets.com allows partners to deliver a branded intranet that brings applications such as document management, hosted e-mail and calendar scheduling to their customers.
