iPass Inc. and Telekom Malaysia Wednesday
announced a new Internet roaming partnership.
Telekom Malaysia’s ISP, Tmnet, plans
to rollout the iPass Internet Roaming service to its customers this week.
The partnership will provide more than 3,000 local access points throughout
150 countries. The iPass alliance with Telekom Malaysia means that Tmnet
customers can obtain Internet access at a local phone call rate from all
over the world.
“We are pleased to continue our expansion in Asia with premier players such
as Telekom Malaysia,” said Jason Ma, iPass managing director of Asia
Pacific.
“It is important to iPass that our service is available to the
largest number of users, but equally important that it is offered by
world-class providers such as Telekom Malaysia.”
iPass currently maintains more than 70 active partnerships throughout the
region in order to leverage the company’s reach in the Asia Pacific. During
the last quarter of 1998, iPass also secured partnerships with Japan Telecom and Singapore Telecomin order to drive the
company’s expansions plans through Asia.

Malaysia’s multimedia unit, said the company is “pleased to be partnering
with iPass because it has rapidly become the de facto standard for roaming
in this region, as well as around the world.”
Telekom Malaysia has provided Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Malawi,
Bangladesh, Thailand, Guinea, Ghana and South Africa with
telecommunications services for over a decade. Telekom Malaysia is the sole
provider of infrastructure for the country’s Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).
TMnet is currently the country’s leading Internet provider with a
customer base of 270,000.
iPass Inc. is a settlement and clearinghouse service that facilitates
