Thousands of Internet Service Providers will be converging
on San Jose this week for several days of technology demos, panel
discussions and diversions, which will focus on a wide range of
opportunities in the ISP business including the local voice data service,
virtual private network hosting and DSL.
Featured speakers include Linux creator Linus Torvalds, Netscape co-founder
Marc Andreesen, and the author of Sendmail Eric Allman.
The ISPcon show kicks off on Monday, September 28 with a golf tournament at
the San Juan Oaks Golf Club, but the schedule gets down to business on
Tuesday morning with keynote presentations from John Sidgmore of WorldCom,
Don Listwin of Cisco, Jack Rickard of Boardwatch Magazine, Marc
Andreesen of Netscape and John C. Dvorak of Boardwatch Magazine.
Thorvalds and Andreesen will share a stage Tuesday afternoon for a
discussion of Linux and the open-source business model of the future. Later
in the day, other sessions will focus on inverse multiplexing for ATM, how
DSL can expand an ISP’s customer base and some routing techniques that can
alleviate backbone congestion.
More than 170 presentations are planned on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The exhibit hall will occupy more than 50,000 feet in the San Jose
Convention Center from Tuesday through Thursday.
