NetLedger Expands, Gears Up for New Version

At a time when growth among technology companies (let alone those in the ASP industry) is rare, NetLedger, the Web services vendor that produces the Oracle Small Business Suite, today announced that it is expanding its work force by 15 percent.

The San Mateo, Calif.-based company will also open new regional sales offices Phoenix, Portland, Ore. and Seattle. The moves are designed “to meet increasing demand,” according to Evan Goldberg, CEO of NetLedger.

Jim LaBelle, vice president of marketing at NetLedger, told ASPnews that the additional employees will be divided among the company’s customer support, sales and development departments. The expansion will add approximately 15 workers to company’s payroll. NetLedger is a privately held company, so LaBelle wouldn’t cite actual numbers, but he did say the company’s sales are “ten times what they were a year ago.”

LaBelle said the company’s growth among small business users (25-50 employees) has come at the expense of products such as Intuit’s QuickBooks and Interact’s ACT! and FrontRange Solutions’ Goldmine. LaBelle described those products as “islands of automation.”

The Oracle Small Business Suite is designed to automate a small business’ complete operation from its Web site (or online storefront) to inventory control to accounting. While products like Quickbooks, ACT! and Goldmine “are not easy to network and only partially automate a business,” LaBelle said, “Oracle Small Business Suite offers every employee a complete view of the business.” (See Oracle Offers Small Businesses a Snapshot View.)

The addition of sales, support and development staff comes in anticipation of the launch of Version 8 of the Oracle Small Business Suite this summer. “Customer have told us they want the ability to automate marketing,” LaBelle said. To address that demand, Version 8 will offer campaign and email marketing features, LaBelle told ASPnews.

Also in the works are plans to integrate NetLedger’s small business services with Oracle’s enterprise-focused E-Business Suite.

LaBelle attributes the company’s ability to consistently enhance and expand the Oracle Small Business Suite to NetLedger’s Web-based architecture. “We wrote it from scratch. We have one application, one team of developers, one location.”

NetLedger is listed as an ASPnews Top 20 Provider.
