Question and answer search engine Ask Jeeves Wednesday says it has appointed Tuoc Luong as its new senior vice president of engineering and product management.

Luong will serve for the Emeryville, Calif.-based company’s business division Jeeves Solutions after coming to the company from Octopus Software, which Ask Jeeves acquired in January. Luong will be taking Octopus’ best ideas and moving them into JeevesOne.

“Attracting someone of Tuoc’s stature to Jeeves Solutions demonstrates our ability to hire and retain the best talent in the industry in order to grow our enterprise software division,” says Jeeves Solutions president Claudio Pinkus. “His extensive technology background, market sensitivity, vision and pursuit of technology excellence accelerate our efforts in defining a self-service leadership position in CRM. As we continue to deliver Connected Self-Service, helping companies reach deep into their enterprise systems to answer customers’ questions and requests, Tuoc’s contribution will be immeasurable.”

The JeevesOne server software combines the company’s traditional ASP self-service search software with newly infused customer relationship management (CRM) tools. The basis of the platform is four elements: knowledge packs, dictionaries, the JeevesOne engine and a JeevesOne connector for Vignette.

The company says it is designed for companies that have online-based customer service sites that help answer questions and trouble shoot problems.
