Openwave Systems has been growing at such a steady speed, say execs, that the Redwood City, Calif.-based company Tuesday says it is adding two top-level positions.

The company says Kevin Kennedy is joining as COO and John MacFarlane is promoted to CTO.

The company specializes in open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications.

“These newly created leadership positions are instrumental in augmenting our team and positioning Openwave for the next level,” says Openwave president and CEO Don Listwin. “Kevin’s balance of strategy and operations excellence is unmatched in the market. His insight, integrity, intelligence and drive make him an excellent leader. John MacFarlane is uniquely qualified for the strategic role of CTO. His track record of identifying and capitalizing on new technology opportunities is outstanding.”

Kennedy previously served as senior vice president at Cisco in its Service Provider Line of Business and Software Technologies Division. MacFarlane previously served as Openwave’s executive vice president.
