Local Internet service provider ProtoSource Corp. Thursday entered
into agreements with two unspecified national backbone providers as part of
its plan to become a nationwide ISP.
ProtoSource currently serves a regional user base in California, but has
aspirations to provide service throughout the country. Through its
agreements with the firms, ProtoSource will have a presence
in more than 270. It hopes to soon reach more than 85 percent of the United
States.
“We feel our move to the national ISP level properly positions the company
to take advantage of the tremendous opportunity that currently exists in
the Internet arena,” said Raymond J. Meyers, president and chief executive
officer.
“This move will assist us in our mission of increasing shareholder value.”
ProtoSource’s strategy is to grow its Internet customer base through the
acquisition and consolidation of existing ISPs and, internally, through
traditional marketing and advertising activities. No acquisitions have yet
been announced.
